Objective:

The study area is the Haliç Shipyard located on the eastern banks of the Golden Horn. It is a historic shipyard which has been in use for more than five centuries. This historic shipyard will be one of the venues hosting numerous cultural events during the summer of 2010. During this time maintenance and repair activities, which still continue albeit at a reduced scale will be further decreased. Some areas within the shipyard will be used for Istanbul 2010 events such as conferences, meetings, concerts and exhibitions. The areas within the shipyard which will be used for these events are shown in the map below.

Taking into account that the shipyard will be open to public during the Summer of 2010 and host various events, the students participating in the Temporary City İstanbul workshop are expected to come up with an intervention in the Haliç Shipyard, which, by temporarily changing the urban environment, will create a public space that offers multitude of opportunities for lively and high-quality cultural intersections. It is hoped that this intervention, however temporary, will be yet another trigger in the larger process of transformation of the Golden Horn Area to become a true cultural hub of the city.
